Youth, Activities, Community (YAC)

YAC (Youth, Activities and Community, formerly the Youth Advisory Council of LC Nation), is up and running! Beth Turcotte is the coordinator of YAC and she works together with Ellie Field to get and keep the kids involved. The goal of YAC is for everyone to feel part of one community. It is important for the kids to know that we are vested in them but also that we need them and that they are an important part of our community. Hopefully, by keeping them involved and engaged they will remain a vibrant and caring segment of Little Compton and they will realize how important they are to all of us.

The group is geared toward 7th, 8th and 9th graders and we are glad to have any older kids that would like to return.
YAC meets on Thursday afternoons. Although the meetings officially start at 6:00, the kids frequently come at 4:30 for homework help, snacks, and camaraderie. The meetings generally consist of food and planning. While they eat, the kids plan. They plan dances (monthly), movies (monthly), occasional special trips (including trips to Carabiners and skiing), as well as things that they can do for our community. Some of the things that they have done this Fall include two special craft and movie programs in conjunction with the PST and the LCCC, working as the babysitters at family movie night at LCCC, baking 41 apple pies at Thanksgiving for the VNA, and baking 73 dozen (that's right 73 DOZEN!) holiday cookies for the VNA to include in the food baskets.

The dances that the kids organize and host are generally the second Friday of each month and the teen movie night is the third Friday of the month. We have had between 50 and 60 kids attending dances and the teen movie night is growing.
