Welcome to our After School Club

The Little Compton Community Center After School Club is a program dedicated to the care and well being of elementary school-age children (5-12 years) during after school hours. We provide a safe and healthy program for those children in the community from 2:45 to 6:00 p.m. following the school calendar throughout the school year. The After School Club provides supervised age appropriate activities such as:

  • Homework time is a quiet structured time that teaches responsibility for their work. Two Dell Laptops are provided for homework research and typed assignments. Extra help is provided if needed and homework is always checked for accuracy and neatness.
  • Arts and crafts encourage creativity with mosaic stepping-stones for the Community Center, themes for every holiday, drawing, painting and sculpting.
  • Sports play builds friendship with a game of 4-square, kickball, wiffle ball, indoor dodge ball and a little golf swing practice.
  • Hands-on science supports cooperation through simple experiments, nature exploration, planting, earthworms and bugs.
  • Linking with the Community promotes pride while involved in the Garden Club youth exhibits; Memorial Tree Spree and Earth Day community clean up

Activities that continue through the school year include:
The joke and/or fact of the day, good deed awards, Birthday celebrations, weekly library visits and our Anti-coloring book contest judged by the members of the Senior Meal Site.

As the Little Compton After School Club Head Teacher I feel a sense of pride to be a part of such a community based program. My name is Karen Ferreira and I have been with the After School Club for eight years. I often tell people it's a passion I have, working with children, although I don't think the passion would be as strong without the support I receive from parents, school and the community here in Little Compton.

Carol Silva has been the After School Club assistant for four years. Carol is wonderful with the children, she takes on a grandmother type roll that the children find comforting in an out of the home environment. Over all Carol's crafting skills go above and beyond what anyone could expect for an after school program.

Jen Turcott is our support staff. Jen is a great addition to the After School Club. The children enjoy her energy on and off the playground. She's a positive and encouraging guide with homework help, while always keeping things organized.

The Little Compton Community Center After School Club welcomes volunteers who would like to share their interests and hobbies. We often have teens volunteer their game playing and homework helping skills to earn community service hours.

Our staff is certified in CPR, First Aid and AED.

Our Philosophy

We believe in the importance of a loving, safe and nurturing environment that respects the needs of all children. We believe in the importance of educational programs offered in a relaxed and cozy atmosphere.

We are committed to providing our children with a healthy and fun filled experience: building self-esteem, cooperation and responsibility while having fun and making new friends.

By guiding children, they develop self-direction and achieve satisfying and acceptable behavior at each developmental level. We also believe in the value of play in relation to children’s development as it enhances the four main areas of development: Physical, Social, Emotional, and Cognitive.

Our excellent child to teacher ratio and small group size addresses each child’s emotional, social, physical and cognitive needs.
